SACRPH places a high priority on accessibility, and we ask for the support of all participants to ensure that those with disabilities are accommodated. SACRPH hopes that participants will collaborate with us to promote accessibility by embracing the following guidelines:
All Presentations
- Audio or video used in conference presentations should provide captions or printed transcriptions so that audience members can follow the presentation without relying solely on hearing.
- Images should be briefly described by presenters in case people cannot see them. For more on describing images, see this extensive set of guidelines.
In-Person Presentations
- Every room, no matter how small, will have at least two microphones, one of which will be wireless. Chairs, commenters, panelists, and audience members are expected to use the microphones, no matter how loudly they can speak.
- Assistive listening devices will be available in all plenary sessions to support those with low hearing; please ask at the Registration Desk for details or email the Program Committee at sacrph2024@gmail.com.
- Presenters using Microsoft PowerPoint can use its captioning feature to provide automatic subtitles in real-time.
- Presenters using Google Slides can also take advantage of built-in live captions.
- Consider providing 3-5 copies of access papers or an access outline of your presentation. Access papers are non-circulating copies of a paper or outline that does not leave the room. At least two should be in large-print (18 point or higher) for audience members with low vision. Audience members can use these access documents rather than solely rely on hearing.
Virtual Presentations:
- The session host will enable closed-captioning transcription for all Zoom presentations.
We ask for everyone’s help in following and collectively enforcing these guidelines as reasonably as possible, as adherence will make the conference better for others. Please remember that disabilities can be visible or invisible, and please avoid assumptions about how colleagues are able to participate in the conference. Instead, we want to create an environment that is accessible for as many people as possible.
We have prioritized and invested in accessibility, but we acknowledge that people may need different or additional accommodations than those described above. We encourage people to contact the SACRPH 2024 Program Committee at sacrph2024@gmail.com in advance so we can make our best efforts to meet these needs.
Special thanks to SACRPH Board Member Paige Glotzer from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, for spearheading this initiative as a SACRPH 2019 Program Committee member.
