We Live Here is a public exhibition that examines the national housing crisis through a local and regional lens. With hundreds of historical images, contemporary photography, architectural designs, resident testimony, and interactive displays, the exhibit places a century of residential life in the greater New London area in the broader national context. We Live Here looks at housing as the framework of community life, exploring its past, present, and possible futures.
The physical exhibition will be accompanied by a website and digital publication featuring expanded display content, commissioned essays, and additional educational materials. A public events series features program partners such as the Garde Arts Center, The Day, New London Landmarks, the Southeastern Connecticut Community Land Trust, the Connecticut Tenants Union, the New England chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians and other institutions.
Of particular note to SACRPH members, Mike Glass, SACRPH Treasurer, will speak on “Housing + Wages of the American Dream: Debt and Inequality in Suburban America” on Thursday, October 29, 5:15-7:00 PM EDT, at Connecticut College and also via webinar.
We Live Here/New London is part of A Right to Housing: Case Study Connecticut, funded by the Mellon Foundation. The three-year public scholarship project, directed by Connecticut College in collaboration with the Center for Housing Opportunity Eastern Connecticut, aims to build a platform for public research and dialogue around housing access and affordability.
