SACRPH places a high priority on accessibility, and we ask for the support of all participants to ensure that those with disabilities are accommodated. SACRPH hopes that participants will collaborate with us to promote accessibility by embracing the following guidelines:
- Audio or video used in conference presentations should provide captions or printed transcriptions so that audience members can follow the presentation without relying solely on hearing.
- Images should be briefly described by presenters in case people cannot see them. For more on describing images, see this extensive set of guidelines.
- Chairs, commenters, panelists, and audience members are expected to use the microphones, no matter how loudly they can speak.
- Presenters using Microsoft PowerPoint can use its captioning feature to provide automatic subtitles in real-time.
- Presenters using Google Slides can also take advantage of built-in live captions.
- Consider providing 3-5 copies of access papers or an access outline of your presentation. Access papers are non-circulating copies of a paper or outline that does not leave the room. At least two copies should be in large-print (18 point or higher) for audience members with low vision. Audience members can use these access documents rather than relying solely on hearing.
We ask for everyone’s help in following and collectively enforcing these guidelines as reasonably as possible, as adherence will make the conference better for others. Please remember that disabilities can be visible or invisible, and please avoid assumptions about how colleagues are able to participate in the conference. Instead, we want to create an environment that is accessible for as many people as possible.
We have prioritized and invested in accessibility, but we acknowledge that people may need different or additional accommodations than those described above.
